Inflammation and soreness of the tendon, which is a set of fibrous tissues that attach your muscles to your bones is the root cause of tennis elbow or in medical terms, elbow tendonitis. The tendons become tender and painful to touch and there is also that reverberating sensation whenever you try to move your affected elbow about. Tendons are more resilient as compared to muscles. If they get injured, it will take ample time before they can fully heal and recover.
Repeated gripping movements of the wrist, constant rotation of your elbow joints, the application of excessive force along the forearm and/or elbow; all of these things can cause the tendons to get torn and damaged and ultimately lead to the development of tennis elbow or also referred to as lateral epicondylitis.
In order to cure this condition, your initial step would be is to rest your injured arm and refrain from doing any activities which are causing your problem. Physical therapy which includes special stretching and strengthening techniques must also be a part of your treatment plan, so you can effectively ease the symptoms associated with tennis elbow.
The apex or tip of your elbow can also get even more painful and tender if the bursa sac which contains the synovial fluids (lubricating fluids) is damaged or infected. If this is the case, it is imperative that you avoid any repetitive movements of the elbow in order to prevent further inflammation and pain. In line with this, you can use a tennis elbow strap to keep your injured arm immobile for the mean time. Wearing an elbow strap is also beneficial since you still get to use your arm without you worrying about the possibility of you inflicting more damage to your already injured arm.
