Are Skin Care Routines Important For Men?

Be true to your skin – Skin is your body’s largest organ and adapts very well to its rapidly changing environment. Knowing your true skin type (the type of skin you have under ideal environmental conditions) is the first step to selecting the products that meet your unique needs. Be aware that if your skin is sensitive, then using cheaper brands of items such as perfumed soaps, shaving creams, fragrances, and any alcohol based product could well irritate your skin. Remember to always thoroughly read the labels on any new products (before buying them) and this will ensure you purchase a product that suits your individual skin needs.

You should always avoid over exposing your skin to the sun as sun damage can lead to hyper pigmentation (brown spots to you and I) and this in turn can develop into a serious skin disease. Excessive exposure can also exaggerate and thicken fine lines. If you ensure you use an SPF 20 or even higher on any exposed skin, paying particular attention to your face when you are outside. Don’t forget about protecting your lips as well! Ideally you would be looking to use a balm with a SPF of a minimum of 15. Peppermint oil not only has a nice feel to it, but it smells nice and also has the benefit of keeping the lips looking moist.

Everything must be done in moderation – remember that if we have too much of anything it’s not always good for us. If you can try and avoid excessive smoking, alcohol, stress and fatigue. All of these factors together can certainly lead to premature aging and they also decrease your facial circulation which will make you look older than you are.

Go natural – Cleansing skin care products should be as chemical-free as possible. One of my favourites is the Elemis Deep Cleanse Facial wash, which I find satisfying. Make sure that you don’t choose a deodorant soap for your face. They cleanse with harsh ingredients and leave a detergent film behind. This could well irritate your skin and your pores could become clogged. A good scrub is essential for healthy clean skin. It will remove dead cells and smooth the surface of your face. Ensure when you do scrub you don’t do it too vigorously as you need to make sure you don’t cause any damage to your skin. Stay away from scrubs that contain rough elements like ground bits of nut or seed extracts. They will tear and damage the skin. A good scrub will leave you feeling invigorated and it certainly can’t do any harm. After this, you should consider using a moisturizer such as Gatineau Aquamemory Moisturiser, which helps to reduce the tell-tale signs of aging.
