Insomnia – Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

Did you know that a person who suffers from insomnia isn’t necessarily somebody that doesn’t sleep? People who sleep but who keep waking up also could be suffering from the condition. If you wake up in the morning feeling tired and like you haven’t had a good night’s sleep, it is a sure sign that you could be suffering from insomnia.

Determining the Cause of the Condition

The problem with insomnia is that it can be so difficult to treat. There are so many potential causes and you could have any number of them. Do you drink a lot of caffeine? If you tend to drink a lot of coffee and tea during the day it can cause insomnia at night. Caffeine helps to keep the brain stimulated and awake. Therefore if you drink too much of it your brain will struggle to switch off and that will lead to problems sleeping. You don’t have to drink caffeine at nighttimes for it to be a problem; it can still be a problem if you drink too much throughout the day!

Stress is a major cause of the condition. If you are suffering with problems at work or if money worries are getting you down, insomnia can strike. Again, the brain finds it really difficult to shut off if you are worrying about things. If you know that your insomnia is stress related you should aim to take part in as many relaxing activities as possible. You should also aim to eliminate the problem from your life too!

One cause that many people don’t take into account is medication. If you have recently changed your medication it could come with insomnia as a side effect. This is one of the easiest causes to fix and you should talk to your doctor if you are concerned.

Once you have diagnosed why you are suffering from insomnia, you can then set about treating it and improving your overall health and fitness. Try to avoid sleeping tablets if you can. If you do feel that you need a little help then why not try natural herbal remedies? There are many things that you can do to cure the condition but it is always a good idea to talk through your options with a doctor.
