Everyone is affected differently when they are exposed to the burning rays of the sun, this greatly depends on their skin type and the length of exposure they have had, to ultra violet light. The importance of safe sun practises and wearing a natural tanning lotion is imperative, if we are to properly protect ourselves from the suns deadly rays. In order to understand the importance of why we need to cover up, its important to know exactly what UV radiation can do to your skin:
UVB rays directly affect the epidermis and the outer layers of the skin, whilst UVA rays continue to burn much longer and will penetrate deep into the dermis layers of the skin. The signs and symptoms of sunburn differ for each individual according to their skin photo type and length of exposure to UV. Fifteen minutes of midday sun exposure may cause sunburn in a white skin person, while a darker skinned person may tolerate the exposure for hours. A good sun tanning lotion is important, however with all the controversy that surrounds sunscreen chemicals, it is not always easy to know what is the best tanning lotion is to use, but if you are going to be out in the sun it is vital that you use some sort of protection.
Repeated burning and long term exposure to UV radiation, can cause skin cancer, this is the most serious long lasting effect from sunburn and it literally is poisoning you, it results in changes in the skin that can become malignant. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and if caught early it is very treatable, it is identifiable by the appearance of open sore that bleeds and then heals and then repeats the pattern, or as a cluster of scaly pink lesions or brown mole like patches and are often found on the scalp, face, ears, chest, hands and back, some rare basal cell carcinoma can occur on skin that has not had exposure from the sun. Squamous cell carcinoma is caused by long-term exposure to the sun and presents itself as a crusted, or scaly wart like growth, which can be inflamed at the base. It is found on areas that have been exposed to the sun, this cancer easily spreads to other tissues if left untreated. The bottom line is that you must always cover up, if you feel that you may of detected a problem that has occurred from to much sun exposure, then it is important to seek medical advice as soon as possible.
