Boost Your Motivation With Alternative Workouts

Motivation is often the weakest link when it comes to workouts. After the initial burst of enthusiasm and fast results, working out starts to becoming more of a chore, than a joyful activity. This can be easily eliminated by exploring different type of workouts and activities. Trying alternative workouts give you a chance to learn new skills and move your body in unfamiliar ways. This can be more enjoyable than the typical workouts that you’re used to, and your body also benefits by working different muscle groups.

Let’s have a closer look at some of  the options.

Swimming may not sound like a radically alternative workout, but it’s one that not that many people engage in these days. This is especially the case if you don’t live close to a body of water or own a swimming pool. Yet almost everyone lives near a public pool of some kind, and most YMCAs and many fitness centers have them. Swimming is a great form of exercise that incorporates aerobic and resistance training. Even though it can be quite strenuous, being in the water also has a relaxing effect on your body and mind as well. If you’re not a good swimmer, you may want to consider taking a few lessons, as the more strokes you know, the more thorough a workout you can get and the safer you’ll be in the water.

Trampolines are a great form of exercise that can be done either indoors or outdoors. Mini trampolines are not that expensive, and don’t take up much room. You can find many books and workout videos that show you a wide variety of exercises you can do on mini trampolines. This is a safe and fun way to burn up calories and get a whole body workout in a short time. Mini trampolines are fun for people of all ages and fitness levels, as you can start off moving slowly and build up your endurance. Plus, you can get the rest of the family involved as well, making this a great family fun.

If you’re looking for an interesting and thorough alternative workout, you should look into Gyrotonic. Despite of the exotic name the core is based in familiar workouts like weight lifting. It’s a fluid form of exercise that’s designed to work in harmony with the body. It’s also a low impact form or exercise, so it’s safe to do for people of all fitness levels as well as for anyone who has injuries. At the same time, it can be challenging and help you get into better condition quickly. Unfortunately, Gyrotonic requires specialized equipment, and not everyone lives close to a place that offers it. However, the exercises can be adapted to home use and done on an exercise mat.

If you find yourself getting bored with your current exercise routine, or don’t think that traditional workouts are the answer to your fitness needs, consider some of these alternative workouts and you may find an activity that’s ideal for you.

  1. Thank your for sharing this. I’ve been working out lately but I don’t have enough motivation to do this. My friends just encouraged me.

  2. I used to swim in high school and during my first couple of years in college. There’s a reason why they say that swimming is the best total exercise- you get to move all parts of your body. Most sports don’t offer this. If you take a look at a swimmer’s body you’ll see that they are perfectly toned but not bulky like heavy weight lifters. I’d very much recommend swimming as a form of exercise.
