How Much Water Should Teenagers Consume?

The average teenager may not really reach for a glass of water when he is thirsty. It is more likely that he will reach for a cola or some other fizzy drink to quench his thirst. But there is also a rising awareness among teenagers about the negative health effects of such thirst quenching options. Therefore, water is probably becoming more fashionable even with this young crowd.

So if as a teenager you are asking how much water you should be drinking every day then here are a few things that you can do to ensure that you are getting the right amount of hydration and enjoying its benefits.

If you want to get really mathematical about it then start with weighing yourself. Girls, you do not have to tell others about how much you weigh but this is just for your own personal “water math” so stick to the truth. Once you have discovered how much you weigh, convert this figure into pounds.

Now divide this figure in half. The number that you are left with is the amount of water in milliliters that you should be drinking. Whew! That is pretty complicated is it not? If this sounds just too much of work to do to drink a glass of water then here is a simple rule of thumb that you can follow.

  • Measure out 10 glasses of water and keep it in your favorite bottle. Reach for this bottle through the day and ensure that by the time you hit your bed you have finished it completely. 10 glasses of water works out to roughly 2 liters.

This may sound like a lot but what you can do is to carry a small water bottle with you wherever you go and keep sipping from it throughout. If you are majorly into sports then you can increase the amount of water a little more.

  • This may sound gross but take a look at the color of your urine. It should be really pale and as clear as possible. If it is a darker color then you are not getting enough water and you should immediately increase the quantity that you are taking in. There are plenty of options as far as water is concerned.

Mineral water, sparkling water and tap water are just some of them. We know that a teenager loves variety. So mix and match but keep yourself fully hydrated!

So go right ahead and make sure that you reach your “target” water intake every day.
